Two tropical cyclones are headed for the Northern Territory and Western over the weekend, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology reports. The Bureau has issued warnings as Category 4 Cyclone Veronica and currently Category 2 Trevor approach the coasts of both regions.

People in or near communities between Mardie and Wallal Downs, including Port Hedland, South Hedland, Wickham, Roebourne, Point Samson, Karratha, Dampier Barrow Island, Pannawonica and Marble Bar should prepare for extreme weather by organising an emergency kit including first aid kit, torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water.

Trevor is expected to intensify to Category 4 status by the time it crosses the NT coast, bringing gales with gusts of up to 120k/h first to the outlying islands and then to the mainland coast between Cape Shield and Burketown in Queensland, before progressing inland. As Trevor approaches the coast it is expected to bring a very dangerous storm tide with possible flooding.

Residents between the NT/Qld border and Burketown should use daylight hours to secure loose items, prepare an emergency kit and fill vehicles' tanks ready for evacuation.
