Parts of New South Wales from the Mid-North Coast to the metro area and across the Mid-North Coast are under emergency conditions as flooding in the Hawkesbury-Nepean River system has reached levels not seen since 1961.
Other parts of the state are threatened by riverine flooding of the Macleay River at Kempsey and the Hastings River. As a result of the continued weather pattern along the East Coast flood warnings have also been issued to low lying areas on the Gold Coast.

Areas affected by flood conditions
In Sydney several days of heavy rain have resulted in 450 gigalitres of water a day released from the Warragamba Dam — comparable to the contents of Sydney Harbour, which is around 500 gigalitres.
New South Wales State Emergency Service (SES) has issued evacuation orders to 2000 homes in Western Sydney and the foot of the Blue Mountains, parts of Penrith and downstream to North Richmond as the Nepean and Hawkesbury Rivers peak, including Jamisontown, Mulgoa, North Richmond, Hawkesbury Valley around Agnes Banks, Freemans Reach, Cornwallis and Pitt Town North.
The SES has urged people to stay home today, and 130 schools are closed.
