Gallagher supports Dive In Festival for diversity and inclusion in insurance industry

Gallagher is proud to be a silver sponsor of the upcoming Dive In Festival for diversity and inclusion in insurance in Australia, which runs from 25–27 September 2018.

Making an impact

In 2017 the festival attracted more than 7,000 people in 17 countries and 32 cities. Lloyd’s has been tracking the impact on the industry and reports that the number of executives who cite inclusion as a top priority has risen by 32%, among other statistics that indicate improved career prospects for women and members of minorities.

Plenty to talk about

In Australia 13 events will be held over the two days in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane , Adelaide and Perth with executive guest speakers from organisations such as the Diversity Council of Australia, Australia’s Race Discrimination Commissioner and author Dr Tim Soutphommasane and Lifeline Chairman and former politician John Brogden. Topics range from LGBTIQ+ inclusion, the ethnic diversity of Australia’s future population and unpacking unconscious bias.

"Gallagher Australia is proud of its employee diversity, achieved by having the right people in the right role, and a culture where colleagues learn and grow from each other: the Gallagher Way," says Gallagher Human Resources Director Lisbeth Rees, referencing the company's charter of family-based values.

"Whatever your background, experience and skills, you can be your true self at Gallagher, building a long lasting and successful career."

Signs of change

  • 85 of the 1,050 director positions in the FTSE 100 are held by people from ethnic minorities.
  • For the first time in the UK there are now companies that have more than 50% representation on their boards.
  • 89% of Lloyd’s and LMA companies feel there is a greater sense of urgency around diversity and inclusion in the last year.

Gallagher Australia is led by a female chief executive, Sarah Lyons, and upholds its equal opportunity policy by employing many women in senior roles.
