Gallagher Chief Executive ‒ Australia Sarah Lyons and National Head of Credit, Surety and Political Risks Racheal Tumelty have been named Elite Women in Insurance by Insurance Business in its annual listing of 25 outstanding female talents.

Gallagher joins Chubb with two women nominated and Marsh with four as one of the few companies with multiple entries to the Elite list.

Sarah Lyons2-2Since her promotion to the top role in Australia in 2017 Lyons has guided the company’s growth through a combination of strategic vision and carefully considered acquisitions building out the brokerage’s comprehensive range of industry specialisms. She emphasises that the Gallagher culture offers the potential to advance on an absolutely equal basis.

“One of the pillars of the Gallagher value proposition is to be yourself here,” she says. “We maintain a culture of openness, inclusion and transparency. You don’t have to pretend to be something you’re not because we look to embrace everybody.

“There’s got to be more work undertaken to encourage females to go for more senior positions. More help in coaching, development, training and confidence building.” To assist with this Gallagher Australia has introduced a Chief Executive Rising Stars program to nurture talent for both male and female employees.

“The diversity of talent coming into the insurance industry continues to go from strength to strength, not only in terms of innovation and technical capability, but also the emergence of a level playing field for talented individuals and future leaders to thrive and succeed irrespective of gender,” Tumelty says.

“I’m delighted to see a growing number of high profile, positive female role models which bodes well for future generations in challenging conventional thinking.”

Both are standard bearers for the scope and opportunity Gallagher offers its employees, in terms of equal opportunity and a commitment to diversity based on the tenets of the company’s ethical charter, the Gallagher Way.
